1977 BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR GOLD COIN

7.10 GRAMS----900/1000 FINE GOLD

This 1977 One Hundred Dollar Gold Coin of the British Virgin Islands was issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. Moreover, in keepingwith the event it celebrates, this is the world's first 25-sided coin, the unusual design specifically symbolizing the 25 years of achievement recorded by the Commonwealth since Her Majesty ascended the throne.
Its face value of one hundred dollars is equal to the same amount in U.S. currency at present exchange rates. As an official monetary coin, it can be spent at face value in the British Virgin Islands. It contains 7.10 grams of 900/1000 fine gold and is minted with a full Proof finish.
Issued in its special sealed cachet, this One Hundred Dollar Gold Coin is a certified First Day of Minting Proof struck on November 17, 1977.
Proofs of this historic coin were minted in strictly limited edition by The Franklin Mint. No other Proofs of this gold coin will ever be minted again.
The obverse of the coin bears the world-famous portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which indicates that the British Virgin Islands are part of the Commonwealth. And the coin's reverse features a most appropriate commemorative design: by permission of Her Majesty's Government, it portrays St. Edward's Crown?the crown actually used in the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
