Beautiful, antique door salvaged from
Northeastern Ohio. The
door is made of solid chestnut and features a large, single, recessed panel
and 9 windows.
Please note that chestnut is a rare and valuable wood, which is not
commercially available. Chestnut trees were once abundant in North America,
but were virtually extinct by 1944 due to the blight fungus.
Restoration: At the point of salvage, the door was covered
under many layers of paint (see last 2 photos). Since then, we've stripped
and sanded the door.
After removing the paint, we found a poorly patched hole in the lower
portion of the panel. We removed the patch, and properly patched it using
antique chestnut. The patch on the front side is very small, and the one on
the back is larger, but both are very tough to spot unless you're looking
for patches. Since the patches are made of the same wood as the rest of the
door, they will finish the same color as the rest of the door.
Hardware: The door doesn't come with any hardware. However,
we have plenty of period hardware in our eBay store. * If you buy a set
from us, we'll install it for free.
If you would prefer to install your own hardware, and would like the
current hardware holes filled; we could fill and patch the holes using
antique chestnut (more expensive) if you plan to stain the door or new pine
(less expensive) if you plan on painting the door--email us for a quote.
Condition: The door is strong, sturdy, and in great shape with
only minor surface scrapes and scratches.
Glass: We found the door without glass, or any molding
around the windows on the back side. We could've added 9 wavy glass lites,
custom cut from our supply of old windows and then made and added molding.
However, what if you want tempered or beveled glass? What if you want a
different molding style? You could buy the door as is and then customize it
yourself, or we could do it for you--email us with a small description of
what you would like done and we'll give you a quote. Our services are not
limited to glass and molding, read below for more details.
Finishing: The door is ready to be repainted or refinished.
Our finisher has decades of experience and we have several "before" and
"after" photos of his fine work. Email us to request photos and/or a quote.
Modification: We could also modify this door to fit your
opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, casing, cut or add to
the height or width, reverse the swing, plug hardware holes, etc. Email us
with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a
quote.
Swing: Once installed, the door would swing inwardly
towards the right side. However, we could change it to swing towards the
left--email us for a quote.
