DESCRIPTION
Here's
a superbly formed STONY IRON CHONDRITE
METEORITE - the material that remains from an interstellar
visitor passing through the earth's atmosphere and crashing
to earth. Meteorites originate in the heads of comets, the asteroid
belt, from Mars, and from the Moon. Chondrite meteorites are
composed of stone mized with iron. Scientists theorize that
they are pieces of LARGE ASTEROIDS
that once melted and then re-formed. During collision, these
asteroids were shattered, sending pieces hurtling into space,
where some of them fell to earth.
This
meteorite was found in 2003 in the SAHARA
DESERT, on the ALGERIAN
BORDER in the REGION
DE ZAQARA, RACHIDIA PROVINCE, MOROCCO. It is
a complete, unbroken meteorite, with the FUSION
CRUST intact all the way around.
I
acquired this crystal from one of the Moroccan dealers who was
set up in Inn Suites at the TUCSON
GEM & MINERAL SHOW in February.
