47th Street: Poems by Frank Marshall Davis - 1948 HB 1st SIGNED
Rare - African American Poetry

47th Street: Poems by Frank Marshall Davis. Prairie City, IL: The Decker Press. 1948. 1st edition, 1st printing. SIGNED and inscribed to Chicago artist Bill McBride. Frank Marshall Davis (December 31, 1905, Arkansas City, Kansas; July 26, 1987, Honolulu, Hawaii) was an African American journalist, poet and political and labor movement activist. An established newspaper writer he also produced several volumes of poetry which were printer by several small presses, the first being by the Black Cat Press in 1935. In 1948 his most ambitious collection of poems was published, entitled 47th Street: Poems, which chronicles the varied life on Chicago's South Side. Hardbound book in dj both in very good condition. A truly rare book, this is the only copy I've seen in 15 years.
