This is a brand new 48mm quality filter that is in a nice plastic case and box. BRANDS VARY, MAY NOT BE EXACTLY AS THE PICTURE. This is the size that almost all 2" telescope eyepieces with filter threads use. This is a neutral density or light blocking optical glass filter, so you can screw it on the bottom of your 2" eyepieces and some 2" diagonals to make things dimmer. This is called an ND4 which means it blocks 3/4 of the light coming in without changing the color. This filter can make viewing the Moon easier on the eyes. The Moon and Venus and even sometimes Jupiter can get so bright that you would like to tone down the brightness at times, and that is what this filter does. Also this filter has internal threads, so you can stack another one onto it. This allows just the right brightness for viewing or CCD imaging or Video capturing of the moon and planets.
