Elegant, pair of antique, French,
double doors salvaged from Northeastern Pennsylvania. Each door has a solid
pine core covered by 1/8" pine veneers. Please don't think
"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneer of today's
doors and furniture, used mostly to disguise the inferior quality materials
underneath; these veneers are thick and add strength and stability to
the door's overall construction.
The doors have an impressive arrangement
of 20, large, true-divided, beveled glass lites.
Condition: The doors were found in great structural condition,
but were extremely dirty. We spent a couple of hours removing the dirt and
build up from the wood, and then oiling the wood to restore moisture and
adding luster to the finish. We also scraped paint spots and other build-up
off of the glass. Spending that much time on the doors is not only good for
the doors themselves, but it also gave us the chance to closely study the
doors for imperfections.
One door has no flaws to report, but the other door has a veneer chip along
the bottom on both front and back sides; a slightly broken, or heavily
chipped upper corner; and a patched area under it's bottom hinge mortise.
The patch isn't made of wood, it's wood putty, which is normally used for
filling holes, or covering small areas. If you're planning on painting the
doors, you could simply paint over the patch; however, if you would like to
re-stain the doors we could replace the patch with wood--see "Additional Services" below for more details.
The glass is in excellent shape with no breaks, cracks, chips, or heavy
scratches.
Hardware: Besides a mortise lock and strike plate, the
doors do not have any hardware.
* We have many passage sets available in our eBay store, as well as other
accessories such as hinges and flush bolts. Check out our auctions or email
us for more details.
If you've purchased beveled glass before, you know that it's quite
expensive. The value of the glass alone is worth about twice the selling
price of these doors. You're looking at a fine opportunity to walk away with
an amazing deal!

HAdditional Services:
1.
Framing: We could make a pine frame for the doors for $215
(email us if you would like a walnut frame).
With the frame built, all you would have to do is finish the frame with the
paint or stain of your choice, and then connect the 3 parts of the frame and
attach the doors to the frame. Framing requires precise measuring and
cutting; with this step out of the way, installation would be much easier
and quicker.
2.
Stripping: We could completely remove the
stain from both doors for $425. Once removed, you could refinish the doors with the stain of
your choice. If you would like to paint them, we could scuff-sand the
doors making the surface smooth and paint-ready for $120.
3.
Height Change: We could cut the doors to make
them shorter for $55, and we could also add to them,
to make them taller for $85. Please note that if we add to the doors, the
addition would be very noticeable if stained, and is only recommended if you
are going to paint the doors.
4. Width Change: We could cut the doors to make
them narrower
for $75, and we could also add to them to make them wider for $125. Please
note that if we add to the doors, the addition would be very noticeable if
stained, and is only recommended if you are going to paint the doors.
5. Putty-patch replacement: We could replace the patch
under the hinge mortise with antique pine for $25.
6. Veneer replacement: We could replace the 2 chipped
pieces of veneer, with 2 new pieces, freshly cut from our supply of antique
pine lumber for $40.
7. Broken corner replacement: We could replace the broken
corner on one of the doors with a new piece freshly cut from our supply of
antique pine lumber for $55.
