Meningitis does NOT just affect children but anyone at any age.

Meningitis kills more children under the age of 5 than any other infectious disease. It can strike anyone at any time of any age and can kill within hours.10% of people who contract meningitis will die. At least 15% of the people who contract meningitis and its related illnesses will have to live with a disability for life such as limb loss, deafness, visual impairment or brain damage.We offer support and awareness.

I am founder and Chairman of the Essex Community Help and Support Group of the MENINGITIS TRUST, I started up this group  in December 1991 after contracting bacterial meningitis twice that year which left me with both physical and mental health disabilities

Our group has families and supporters spread all across ESSEX, our charity workers are NOT paid and work voluntary, and have ALL been affected by Meningitis, either losing a loved one or having Meningitis themselves.

Our volunteers help the Meningitis Trust towards its main aims:

1)  Research into MENINGITIS and the after effects of Meningitis

2) Information  for  the  general  public  and  professional  bodies.

3) Support for victims of the disease and their family and friends.

The Meningitis Trust

Was formed in 1986 by a group of concerned parents in Stroud Glos, and is a recognised charity for this disease by healthcare workers and professionals from all over the world.

As many as 500,000 people living in the UK today have had either viral or bacterial meningitis.  And up to 10 million adults in the UK – one adult in every four – knows of someone who has had the disease. The Meningitis Trust helps and supports everyone struggling to cope with the impact of meningitis.
