Here we have 5 Rare Japanese souvenir dolls also known as Kobe Dolls. Kobe dolls were originally made between 1870-1920, as a cheap souvenir for the sailors at a city port named Kobe. The blond wood Kobe dolls are harder to find. Most of them are black because it is thought they were inspired by Black sailors that came to the Port.
These 5 souvenir dolls are all in AS-IS condition, The original Kobe dolls were made between 1870-1920, I cannot verify the era of these dolls listed because these are the only ones I have seen (Besides in books). Individual Condition as follows:
Carriage With Two People:
It appears to be designed to function forward and backward for only a few inches in each direction. When it does so both peoples heads and necks become elevated. It appears that either individuals' right hand was designed to become animated also, but neither operates.
Small Figure holding hat above head
This figure is in very good condition, except that when one raises his helmet his tongue is supposed to stick out. It does this but only very intermediately.
Eyeless and Mouthless with extended hands
The above is self explanatory. It also appears that the figure was originally designed to hold something in its hands, but nothing is there. Also the toes on his right foot are completely broken off.
Figure with full length gown and extended arms
This figure is obviously missing his right eye and mouth. Additionally, something was supposed to be in its left hand, which is missing.
Figure with cloak closed at neck.
Part of mouth is missing.
These wooden doll souvenirs are a wonderful addition to any collection you don't want to miss the chance to own these for yourself. Unfortunately time has taken its toll on these figures.xx180
