Lemond Carbon fiber Alpe D" Huez bike frame / frameset (the original) built by "the man" Craig Calfee himself (no mass produced TREK here). Based on the Team Z Carbonframes / Calfee Sapphire. Only 200 made circa 1992. This frame is essentially a Calfee Tetra Pro and virtually identical to the one "the man" is riding in the pics below. This is NOT the TVT 92!
See the following link at Calfee Design's website on the history of carbon bikes:

I would imagine this frame is something of a collectible; it represents the very pinnacle of all Lemond badged frames (including IMHO his current ones). Throughout the years pre-TREK, Lemond subcontracted the very best artisans in the biz to build his frames; from Della Santa with his Columbus steel-tubed frames, Merlin / Clark Kent / and Litespeed for his Ti frames, Billato in Italy for his Excell tubed Team Gan frames, and "the man" Craig Calfee himself for his brief run of Carbon fiber frames. Lemond and Team Z were never sponsored by Calfee. Greg apparently paid out of pocket for custom Carbonframes / Calfees for his whole team.
See Calfee's technical white paper on pros/cons of different methods of carbon frame construction here: http://www.calfeedesign.com/whitepaper9.htm Pay attention to the last example in the chart "Lemond Carbon"
There are many reports of Calfee's frames with over 100,000+ miles and still going strong! A true testament to the strength of Calfee's original Tetra Design. See this link: http://www.calfeedesign.com/tetra.htm
Ridden sparingly and it shows. Only significant blem is some SUPERFICIAL clearcoat rubbing on the right chainstay which would be hidden by the crankset. The carbon underneath is NOT THE LEAST BIT affected. I did the best I could to display this in one of the pics below. The clearcoat still gleams. Been in storage most of it's existence.
Technically a 54cm (the seattube is 54 cm center to the BASE of the seatclamp), but the top tube is 56 cm with a slack 73 deg seat angle. I believe this is the very frame size/ geometry that Greg himself rode. The seattube is 56.2cm center to TOP. Top tube is 56cm C-C
Greg is 5'9". Take a CLOSE LOOK at the pics of him aboard the bike. See his stem? It SLOPES DOWNWARD, even though the frame is already long and low, so that he could get even more aero. Greg truly was "the man"!
Comes with the original Kestrel EMS fork with Lemond decals and Campy Record threaded headset and f. der carbon spacer/seattube protector AND size 6 (XL) Tomasso Team Z jersey in good condition (see pic below).
Titanium fittings throughout ie dropouts BB threads etc.
Good luck! Thanks for looking! I hope you enjoyed the stroll down memory lane!
