BEFORE YOU BUY THIS MANUAL, TAKE A LOOK AT THE COMMENTS IN MY FEEDBACK.
Please note: There is only one Overdrive manual and it works for all Post War Studebakers regardless of the model year
By 1949 when this manual was first produced, there were already over 2 million American cars equipped with Overdrive and this was just the beginning. The 50's and 60's were the prime years for overdrive and for American Cars, Borg- Warner was the only game in town. That's what this manual is about.
Studebaker was one of the first postwar cars to offer overdrive, so a lot of these cars were equipped with the Overdrive option. Few people really understood all that Overdrive was capable of. It turned a simple 3 speed on the tree into a 6 speed. It saved fuel, reduced engine wear and reduced the overall noise level of the car by reducing the engine RPM by 30% at highway speed. But, it was complicated and Borg-Warner wrote this manual in response to the increasing number of questions it got from owners and mechanics. They realized that few people understood the advantages the overdrive lent to their car and they also came to realize that few garages could diagnose and repair them outside the dealership and even many dealers were in the dark with respect to diagnosing the unit without damaging it even more. One of the issues with the Overdrive unit was you could damage it if you did not know what you were doing while diagnosing it. Hense, the Overdrive Instruction Manual was born.
This professionally produced manual is from an original print (proof) copy from Borg-Warner and is excellent and printed on far better paper including a heavy stock cover. Much better than the original ever was. Spend an hour or so reading this manual and you will be amazed what you will learn especially if you have a car with overdrive or plan to install overdrive in your car or if you just want to understand ons of the 20th century. This manual covers both the R10 and R11 units. It applies to all postwar American cars wtih Overdrive.
IF YOU ARE PLANNING A CROSS COUNTRY TRIP WITH YOUR OVERDRIVE EQUIPPED CAR, THEN THIS MANUAL WILL BE A WORTHY COMPANION IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE WITH YOUR OVERDRIVE
