He wasn't always a star. Down the road, he would stand head and shoulders above NFL quarterbacks, but in 1959, he was just another member of the junior varsity at Beaver Falls (PA) High School.

Joe Namath would have to wait until his senior year before starting for the Fighting Tigers --  and then he'd win every game. But that was still a year away. As a junior, Namath wore number 15; that's him in the top row, second from left. As a senior, he'd wear number 19 as a tribute to his boyhood hero, Johnny Unitas.

This first-generation photograph was taken by the now-defunct Beaver Falls News-Tribune. The original photo was cropped tighter at the top and bottom and used as the team photo in the 1960 Beaver Falls High School yearbook. 

The photo is printed on Fujicolor Crystal Archive Paper. The picture is flawless and is much sharper than the scan.
