The Mortar and Pestle have been used for thousands of years by Apothecaries to grind medicine.
You can use this mortar and pestle to grind chemicals, or herbs & spices, but never both.
The grinding process increases the surface area and reaction rate as well as releasing the oils and flavors of the substance.
The porcelain mortar is glazed on the exterior and the pestle glazed on the handle up to the grinding surfce.
