Experimenters, here's a RARE find. Check the datasheet and schematics below. Notice the unique internal electronic switches on both the input and output paths! This is a high performance low-noise, high-gain Op-Amp designed for a car autoreverse tape player. But the input and output switches, operating independently, will work in a wide range of non-automotive applications too. These extraordinary Op-Amps offer some real exciting possibilities for a creative amateur or technician. Have some fun incorporating one of these into your next stereo or radio design.

Originally the switches were used for remote selection of tape heads and equalization. However, it's crazy how easily these switches can be re-configured for other uses. Below are a few options. You can change the feedback resistors to control the loop gain to meet your needs too.

Single Vcc Supply: 6 to 16 Volts
Very Low THD = 0.035%

Wire the INPUT Switch to:
  • Select either A or B input signals
    (original use)
  • Turn the A input On or Off
  • Select a voltage divider to adjust gain
  • Cascade amps for higher gain
  • Switch between Stereo and Mono
  • Swap audio inputs between amps
Wire the OUTPUT Switch to:
  • Select magnetic tape equalization
    (original use)
  • Select a feedback resistor for loop gain
  • Turn the outputs On or Off
  • Switch between Stereo or Mono
  • Make a Monitor output port
  • Make a fixed / variable output selector
