Bartely’s Shoe Repair has been serving the community of Winchester Virginia for over 6 decades. Throughout that time, Bartley’s has maintained the same location in Winchester’s Old Town Wailing Mall District, an area prized by the community and populated by tourists. A long-standing relationship with Winchester’s Downtown Development Board has made the little shop a cornerstone of the community. The store is so integrated into the fabric of the community that it has become a regular stop for campaigning politicians. For these reasons and more, the shop is frequently featured in the local newspaper and receives its share of TV media attention. The store’s location has also made Bartley's a feature in Winchester's Annual Apple Blossom Festival, the city’s largest event. The Downtown Development Board’s stipulations indicate that Bartley’s may participate in commerce during the festival without having to incur the cost or hassles of obtaining a vendors license.
Bartley’s has a long track record of profitability. Over the past 60 years, the store has developed a strong customer base in Winchester and the surrounding communities. The store also receives work orders by mail from customers from all over the country. In addition, Bartley’s has an existing partnership with a Dry Cleaning Franchise. This partnership provides a steady flow of work; projects are dropped off weekly. The store has provided a sound living for two generations of Bartley’s. The current owner, Richard Pomenta, worked for the shop for three years before purchasing the business. He knew first hand what a lucrative opportunity the store was and jumped at the chance to buy when Mr. Bartley retired at the age of 70. Mr. Pomenta is now being forced to sell the store due to a sudden and chronic health condition. Due to the severity of his situation, he is asking for a fraction of what he paid for Bartley’s. The business is valued at over $80,000.
