VINTAGE 1960s ALFRED ANGELO/EDYTHE VINCENT SATIN GOWN
This is a gorgeous vintage silk satin designer wedding gown from the late 1960s. It is tagged on the inside, "An Alfred Angelo Original Designed By Edythe Vincent." Much fashion of the time was inspired by the Renaissance costumes designed by famed Italian costume designer Danilo Donati for the 1968 Franco Zeffirelli film "Romeo & Juliet." (For the first time, the title characters were played by teenagers, and the film was an international sensation.)
The influence can be seen in the gown's Empire waist, gathered bust, and billowing Watteau back. The waist is accented by a satin ribbon bow in the front. The skirt is called ''dagger sheath'' style. The model is a size 8, and the gown is too loose on her. It would probably fit a modern 12 best.
There is a long back zipper covered by white satin bridal buttons. The gown has long satin sleeves with thin satin cuffs, and a white satin round collar that closes in the back with three more bridal buttons (the top loop needs to be fixed). The top is sheer organza with a white multi-lace overlay that comes down over the bust and back. Inside, except for the organza top, the gown is entirely lined with white cotton muslin.
There is a 4 inch 3 hook inside satin strap to fit the gown more perfectly to the body, and sturdy white hanger loops inside the sleeve sleeve (in the armpit area, so they will not show when worn!). This is truly a high-end gown. Saying it is spectacular is an understatement! If you love vintage, this is the perfect gown for your special day.
It is tagged on the inside ''Edythe Vincent for Alfred Angelo.'' (There are no other tags.) Alfred Angelo Piccione opened his first family run bridal salon in Philadelphia in 1934--this year is their 75th anniversary. Piccione started the company with his sister, Nancy, and later married Edythe Vincent. She became the designer for Alfred Angelo. This gown is one of her creations. (Alfred Angelo today is that rare thing, still a family run business, their children now the proprietors.)
The size noted in the description is only an estimate based on the above measurements. This gown will be wrapped in tissue and shipped in a box. In excellent condition, no holes or tears. There are some small stains on the back of the train. We recommend professional cleaning before wearing.
