DESCRIPTION |
This is a top-notch BLUE-GREEN FLUORITE specimen from a classic locality - the world-famous ROGERLY MINE in Westgate, WEARDALE, ENGLAND. This specimen was mined from the SEVEN DWARFS POCKET in 2004, and is representative of the EXTRAORDINARY QUALITY of the material that was mined last summer. the crystals are much GEMMIER than those collected in earlier years, and the best faces are GLASS-SMOOTH and overall show little of the white flawing that marred many specimens in the past. I acquired this specimen in TUCSON in February direct from the folks who are operating the mine. When I picked out this specimen, I cherry-picked from a group of around 100 flats, and this one was one of the most attractive for its size. The specimen shows the classic PENETRATING TWIN CUBIC CRYSTAL HABIT, and the crystals are LUSTROUS and UNUSUALLY GEMMY. The largest crystals on this piece measure a hair under .5". The fluorite FLUORESCES under short wave light a RICH BLUE COLOR, and is also very strongly DAYLIGHT FLUORESCENT. |
