Viscount Michiharu Mishima of Japan:
Viscount Michiharu Mishima (born 1897 - died 1965) was an important Japanese
novelist, playwright, and statesman. He was born in Azabu, Tokyo. He
was a member of the Japanese House of Peers and the House of Councillors.
He also was parliamentary vice-minister to the Ministry of Education,
Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
He wrote with the pen name was Shodo Mishima.
Michiharu Mishima's grandfather was Michitsune Mishima. His father
was Yataro Mishima. The family had long been associated with the Bank
of Japan. His mother was Marquis Takauta Shijo.
Mishima also was the first president of the Boy Scout Association of Japan.
He formed the Boy Scouts of Japan in 1922, with Count Futara Yoshinor,
and Shimpei Goto. He was head of the central training-grounds and was
the fourth Chief Scout of Japan. In 1946 he held a Scouting exhibition,
which was the first since the end of World War II.
Mishima' home in West Nasuno, Tochigi Prefecture was the headquarters of
the Boy Scouts in Japan. Today this site is a permanent camping grounds
for the Boy Scouts of Japan known as the Nasuno Camping Grounds
In 1961 he was awarded the Bronze Wolf by the World Organization of the Scout
Movement for exceptional services to world Scouting
Mishima's handwriting can be found on the stone monument at Japan's First
Boy Scout Camping Ground, located on the banks of Lake Biwa in Omatsuzaki
in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture.
Arthur Paul MacArthur:
Arthur MacArthur, born 1901, was the son of John Roofe MacArthur II,
of the MacArthur Bros. Co., an engineering company who constructed the harbor
of Palermo, Italy. His mother was Pauline Arnoux MacArthur of Caldwell,
Essex, New Jersey.

1. A hand-written letter dated January 31, 1951 signed "Michiharu" (Michiharu
Mishima) addressed to Arthur MacArthur of Gramercy Park, New York City.
With information about Mr. Mishima returning to Tokyo after visiting
Ito. With information about Mishima's son-in-law, the husband of his daughter
Miyako. With information about Mishima's family visiting Atami City
and Miyako's family visiting from Kobe Japan. With information about a Boy
Scouts meeting in the Tsuruya Hotel in Atami City.
2. One page typed letter datted June 20, 1952, signed in ink "M Mishima"
of Tokyo (Michiharu Mishima) addressed to Arthur P. MacArthur of Gramercy
Park. With information about Mr. Mishima previously visiting Mr. MacArthur.
With information about American headquarters of the Boy Scouts sending
C. M. Finnell to visit Japan. With references to Dr. Schuck and Mr.
McKinny. With information about Mr. Mishima's daughter Miyako living in Osaka,
Japan.
A Letter Signed by Michiharu Mishima's Daughter Mikayo to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
MacArthur:
A typed letter dated May 8, 1952 signed Miyako / Miyako Hachiuma in Tokyo,
the daughter of Michiharu Mishima, addressed to Mr. and Arthur MacArthur
in New York City. With the mailing envelope and two Japanese postage
stamps. With information about a visit by her father, Michiharu Mishima.
With information about her husband Hiroshi Kurushima. With two
originals photographs of the lauching of the ship Eiken Maru.

A Typed letter dated April 29, 1968, signed by Mrs. Michiharu Mishma

to Mrs. Mishma's deceased husband Michiharu, her grand-daughter Toshiko attending
Smith College, her grandson Michi studying in Ann Arbor, Michigan, her daughter
Kinko Mukoyama working for CBS in Tokyo. Information about Mrs. Mishma's
upcoming visit to the U.S. with a second typed sheet of paper listing her
complete itinerary in the U.S. including visiting Honolulu, New York, Hartford,
etc.

Arthur Paul MacArthur:
Three hand-written letters addressed to Mrs Mishima, from Arthur MacArthur
of "Babbling Brook" in Milford, Pennsylvania in Pike County. One
is dated April 5, 1968. One is date September 8, 1968. One is
dated October 8, 1968. With information about the MacArthurs moving
to Milford where they operate a campground. With information about meeting
Mrs. Mishima and Kinko at the MacArthur's Gramercy Park apartment in New
York. With information about the MacArthur's friendship with Michiharu Mishima.
With information about Mr. MacArthur receiving a gift from of the Mishima
family of the deceased Michiharu Mishima's transistor radio, cuff links,
handkerchief, etc.

A hand-writted letter addressed to Kinko (Mrs. Kanao Mukoyama of Tokyo) dated
July 22, 1968 from Arthur MacArthur. With information about visiting Mrs.

A Letter from Kinko, daughter of Michiharu Mishima, to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
Paul MacArthur:
Hand-written letter dated June 26, 1968 from Mrs. Kanao T. Mukoyama of
Tokyo, Japan, signed "Kinko" addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur P.
MacArthur of Milford, Pennsylvania, in Pike County. With its air mail
envelope and 2 Japanese postage stamps. Two hand-written pages to thank Mr.
and Mrs. MacArthur for hosting Mrs. Mukoyama and her parents during their
visit to the United States.
