The effect of abrash is subtle shading differences. In older or antique rugs, abrash occurs naturally. In new rugs, Abrash is carefully created by changing the color of the yarns to mimic a vintage look It occurs in parallel stripes of different color within the rug. This is not a infirmity - it is a typical sign of a true handmade persian rug. Also, Persian rugs have a dark and a light side - this appears from the reflection and absorption of light falling on to the pile.
