This beautiful rug was hand-woven in the city of Hamadan in Iran. HISTORY

The province of Hamedãn is located in the western part of Iran, and the city of Hamedãn, the capital of this province, in one of the most ancient and historical cities of Iran.  In this province the carpets are generally woven in floral and stylized patterns.  Their designs are corner medallions, flower bouquets, and interlaced fish designs.  The Hamadan rug is probably the most well known nomadic carpet from Iran. Usually consisting of geometric patterns, the Hamadan has got one important characteristic, a single wefted medallion.  The quality of these rugs is extraordinary.  A Turkish knot is used in the creation of the carpet.  And even though they're not really densely knotted, they seem to last forever.  Hamadans usually have dark, powerful, red and blue colors, which is a typical characteristic of this rug.
