In 1989, after many years of teaching and being a therapist in private practice in Santa Barbara, California, Anne went into retreat in Mt. Shasta, California where, in 1991, she spontaneously wrote A THOUSAND STEPS TO NOWHERE. She finished editing the book in 1996 while living in Kauai, Hawaii.
