Abraham Lincoln (1809 - 1865 ) President (1861-1865) Abraham Lincoln reguarded as one of our greatest Presidents. The original cast was taken in 1860 by Lenord Volk. Of this process, letting plaster heat up and harden on his face and then being pulled off with some of his hair Lincoln stated "It was anything but Agreeable". Volk took the cast to use as a model for the satue of Lincoln at the Illinois State Capital in Springfield. This cast has always been considered by sculptors and artists as the most reliable document of Lincolns face. Far more valuable than photographs for it is the actual form. It has been used for the Lincoln Memorial and the President exibits at the Disney Parks.
When Volk took the first positive cast from the mold he felt he had to leave his hand on the piece so he gouged Lincolns eyes out with his thumbs and said " There now he can see". So for the past 140 years the best cast of our beloved Lincoln has looked like a victem in a horror film.
It has always been difficult for me to look past the terror of this and see the greatnes of the man. So I Erick Erickson restored the eyes and sculpted Lincolns eyes closed as they would have been if they had not been altered. I sculpted the hair as he wore it in 1860. The result is now when you look at the piece it is Abraham Lincoln just as he was at the age of 51. All of the original detail of the historic cast has been preserved.
So the work of art you get has a direct link to Abraham Lincoln.
It's like having him right there with you.

The finnished piece is cast in USG's Tuf-Cal gypsum cement, it is fiber filled and has polymer additves to assure it will last forever.
It measures 11" High X 8.5" Wide X 6.25" Deep.
It is aproximatly 8.5 pounds unpacked.
It is finished in Presidential Bronze color then rubbed with an antiquing overlay to bring out the detail.
The piece is then sealed with a clear coat to preserve the finish.
