assorted disparate notes re:
subject matter & style/technique
1. use of trompe d'oeil throughout, the largest
one being the bust-and-up figure of a woman
looking to the viewer's left (think Elizabeth Taylor
in Butterfield 8 - it's most easily seen when image
is still a thumbnail or at least before enlargening),
i.e. white tablecloth are her shoulders with pink
cloth insert as upper bust and neck area, 3 layers
of cake are part of her face and gray background
area is her hairdo
2. subject of gay marriage addressed here in 1992,
16 years prior to Proposition 8 in California, and
in an advertising campaign for Absolut vodka
3. facial features of each person are very specific
and most likely have real life counterparts, though
this seller has not been able to identify anyone;
notice the facial similarity of the left groom and the
identical twins on either side and the woman in the
light purple dress in the left background area
(assistance in IDing would be very much appreciated)
4. prominence of pink triangles-- the symbol Nazis
used to sew on sleeves to identify gay men in
concentration camps during World War II, and
used here to decorate banner above, as falling
flower blooms, cake on each plate as well as
wedding cake, fruit in drink, pink linen on cake
table and cake decoration
condition
painting for the most part is in very good
condition, noting a few scuff marks to the
bottom edge, especially in the area of the
artist's signature, and also to the left at
the juncture of the left edge of pink table
linen and the bottom edge
shipping
painting will be wrapped in either brown paper or
plastic, then bubble wrapped; it will also be
blanket wrapped as it must be truck freighted,
its overall size exceeding maximum limits of
traditional door-to-door carriers - after 9 years
of shipping on Ebay, we recommend PLYCON
