I was given a gift of beautiful Moss Roses for my flower garden this year. I could not resist making a colorful reminder of them.
The moss rose requires little care and thrive wonderfully thankfully as mine are often neglected due to my busy painting schedule.
 I use the stained torn and cut paper layering it to capture the interesting texture and bold colors of moss rose.

The term Bas-Relief is French meaning "low-raised" originating from the Italian phrase: "basso-relievo" a technique used in sculptural artwork.  The concept for these works use this same idea of low-rise up from the flat 2-dimensional surface using papers layered to mimic the sculptural effect.
