ACOUSTIC RESEARCH SPEAKER/CABINET SEALER**

On their early model speakers, AR used a gray putty like material to seal the speaker (driver) flange to the cabinet. This was very important as AR's speakers are acoustic suspension type that depended on the spring force of the sealed cabinet air to achieve the great bass response they were noted for. This is a block of sealer to use in your repairs. One block will be sufficient for remounting 1 large woofer, 2  eight inch woofers or 4 smaller drivers. For a pair of the larger 10 and 12 inch woofers, I suggest two packages. You will likely have some left over but better than not having enough.

If you are replacing a driver in an AR-3, AR-3a, AR-5, AR-2ax or one of the other great models, you will find that the original sealer under the driver flange is hard and dried out. If you have one of the later model speakers with the foam seal and it has taken a permanent set such that you question it's ability to provide a suitable seal, you may use this sealer as an alternative. Don't take a short cut after all this work and cost to replace the driver, use new sealer for your installation.
