Roman Coin AE Sestrtius FAUSTINA THE YOUNGER (161-177A.D.) EF+++

Look at this ! Don't miss it!

  • Here is a rare find - a briliant Sestrtius of Faustina II (a.k.a. The Younger). Very hard to find in this condition!
  • Exceptional engraverer's job - specially while talking to the personal characteristics of the Empress on the obverse 
  • The bust is turned right and on the reverse are represented her two twins Anius Verus (161-166 A.D.) and the future emperor Commodus (161-192 A.D.). This very reverse dates the coin to 161 A.D. after the twins were born on the 31th of August and is regarded as a special mint for the occasion.
  • FYI - Faustina II The Younger was the little daughter of Antonius Pius (138-161 A.D.) and Faustina I (The Elder). She was also wife of Marcus Aurelius (161-180 A.D.) and mother of 12 children, among them the future emperor Commodus (177-192 A.D.)   
  • This coin is a part of an outstanding collection acquired over decades from a doctor's family here in Houston. We are pleased to offer part of this collection on their behalf.
  • AUTHENTICITY UNCONDITIONALLY GUARANTEED!!!  
  • Measurements: Approx. 33/34 mm; 29.2 grams - thick and heavy coin 
  • Condition:  EF+++; Nice green even patina; high relief on both sides. Very well centered on both sides. No missing or damaged letters. All in all a very desirable specimen for an advanced collection
