Adapter to fit Canon FD mount lens or accessories to Canon EOS (D)SLR Camera Body
    (for all Canon EF mount film SLR and DSLR models including 1D, 5D, 20D, 40D, 350D, 450D, 450D, 1000D etc.)

Front and rear caps included to protect you lens when not attached to the camera. (Avoids you needing to remove the adapter to get your FD cap to fit).

The adapter is aluminium costruction with brass fittings and a coated corrector lens.

This brand new adapter will allow you to use old style Canon FD mount mechanical mount lenses and macro accessories on Canon EOS cameras.
The adapter allows focusing to infinity.
  
The built in "Confirm" chip tells your camera that the lens is in manual mode, allowing the "in-focus" lights to operate correctly in the viewfinder. You need to set the aperture by hand however you can set your camera to Aperture Priority (Av) mode to use the camera's automatic exposure facility. The chip allows all metering modes supported by your camera.

WARNING: If you have a 35mm film or full format digital camera:

  • Some FD adapters sold on eBay do NOT press the mechanical AF switch found on the 1D and many film cameras. Focus confirmation will therefore not work. If you have this switch then check the sellers item description carefully.
  • Some FD adapters sold on ebay will hit the reflex mirror on the 5D and some other full format cameras. If the corrector lens is not sunk below the rear of the adapter (see the photo attached to this item description) the mirror on these cameras is likely to hit the adapter causing it to jam.

This new model adapter has been redesigned so that it is suitable for all Canon EOS cameras, film and digital.

  • The adapter is designed to press the mechanical AF switch found on the 1D and many film cameras to permit focus confirmation.
  • The reflex mirror on full format cameras, including the 5D will not hit the adapter.

The corrector lens acts as a teleconverter, extending the focal length of the lens by about 1:1.4 times. This is typical of all FD/EOS adapters on the market. It can be removed by unscrewing it from the front, for short distance and macro work. The lens may be initially rather tight but can be unscrewed easily once moved.

If you are using a macro tube with this adapter it should be okay with 22mm image chip cameras however if you have a full format (35mm) camera you may get vignetting of the corners of the image in some combinations. In this case you should look out for an adapter without glass on eBay (I do not stock them).

The AF Confirm chip is vulnerable to sharp blows and static discharge so you should always attach the lens cap when not in use.

Waffle
Old mechanical lenses generally have optics every bit as good as their modern equivalents so grab a bargain on eBay then get one of my adapters to use it on your Canon EF mount camera. Manually set the lens aperture as required. Use large apertures for low light or when you want a defocussed background e.g. for a portrait shot. Use small apertures in bright light or if you want a longer exposure for instance to blur an aircraft propeller or the background of a fast moving racing car. Use the camera's Av mode for automatic exposure. You will need to set focus by hand. This takes a little practice as the modern viewfinders are not so easy to judge as the old split focus type. Using smaller apertures considerably increases your margin for error. For reliable pin-sharp focus select an AF Confirm adapter which will activate the focus lights in your viewfinder.
