This is a beautiful Letter Opener made of Mother of Pearl, Agate, and metal.
The metal on the handle is either silver or silver bronze, and it is inset with many different semi-precious stones. It contains cabuchon or carnelian, an elegant agate blade, and a ruby or other semi-precious stone set in the center of the handle.
The ornate handle is made from Mother of Pearl shaped like a nautilus, and the metal surrounding the Mother of Pearl is elaborately decorated. The back of the handle contains the signature "Orfaley" This letter opener was most likely made in the early 20th Century.
The bladeis made from a piece of multicolored agate. The agate contains swirls of blue and orange, with the blue color making up most of the blade.
This piece meaures 9 1/2" long overall, and 1" wide at the blade.
