The Japanese kanji symbol for Aikido is hand brushed to the right of a picture of an antique Japanese print. Above the artist's stamp is a smaller Japanese kanji seishin, which means "spirit". The two combine to make a very attractive piece of art that reflects the spirit of Aikido.

The paper is mounted on a custom mat (included). All you have to do is put it in a frame and hang it on your wall. It is made in, and sent to you directly from Japan.

Dimensions:

Total Paper Size: 7 1/8" x 9 7/8"  (181mm x 250mm)

Total Size with Mat: 8 1/4" x 11 7/8"  (211mm x 303mm)

The mat has been chosen to accentuate this piece and is custom cut from Japanese paper (note the texture). It is included to retain the authenticity of the calligraphy, and to simplify the framing process.

About the Artist: She is a Japanese native with over 30 years of experience in the art of calligraphy. (This page has been translated for her.)

All pieces are individually brushed. When finished, they are marked with the artist's hanko (stamp) . Their authenticity is absolutely guaranteed, and the work is produced and shipped from Nagoya, Japan.

Note: Please be careful when buying Japanese calligraphy. Some are clearly done by amateurs; some of whom are not familiar with the Japanese language. Often the kanjis are not correct for the intended meaning. (We've even seen this on tattoos!) Authentic Japanese calligraphy is an art that takes many years to truly master. This piece is done in the beautifully fluid "gyosho" (semi-cursive) style.
