This is a restoration of the Aiwa AD-6900U "Flat Response Tuning System" Stereo Cassette Deck. This deck was introduced in 1978 at a price of $850.00; and was a very high-end cassette deck designed to compete with the Nakamichi decks. The Flat Response Tuning System (F.R.T.S.) was a unique and invaluable feature that allowed the user to easily set the deck up for optimum levels and flat frequency response with virtually ANY cassette tape of any quality. The three-head design with Double-Dolby allowed using a special test mode to record a low-frequency and a high-frequency tone on the tape, and quickly calibrate record level and tape bias level for flat frequency response with that particular tape. This operation only took a few seconds because you could see the results as you adjusted the controls. This system had separate settings for LH (standard), FeCr (Ferrichrome), and CrO2 (Chromium Dioxide) tapes.

This listing is not for an old original manual, but for a restored copy. The time-consuming restoration process involves carefully scanning the original manual into Adobe Photoshop and spending hours processing each page to produce a manual that looks better-than-new. All photos are stripped out and processed separately. All tears, marks, stains, etc. are removed from the original manual, even printing defects are corrected. The text is brought back to original sharpness and detail, as are all of the illustrations. I use heavy 37 lb. imaging paper. The 12 pages are all individually printed on a photo-quality printer. The outside covers are further protected by 10-mil thick clear plastic sheets. Everything is then bound with a white plastic ring comb, so that the manual will open flat and be very durable.
This is a highly professional product that takes a lot of time to prepare, but it is worth it! eBay customer feedback has been very positive regarding quality.

This 12-page manual contains detailed technical information on features such as the special ferrite heads, F.R.T.S., the motor drive system with 38 pulse FG servo, and more. There are detailed diagrams of all controls, connections to other equipment, and complete operating instructions. There are also graphs of distortion vs. record level for the different types of tape, the operation of the F.R.T.S. showing different settings, and Dolby noise reduction frequency response curves including noise floor improvement. The back page contains complete electrical and mechanical specifications. The look of the original manual was carefully maintained, while creating a cleaner, sharper, and easier-to-read copy. The manual is approximately 7.5" x 11".
