Rare Vintage AKAI GX-620 REEL to REEL STEREO TAPE DECK. Looks like this is very rare version of GX-620 with pitch control (referred as AAL model although I cannot find those letters on the deck), original GX-620 does not have pitch control feature. Here the link to pictures of original GX-620 without pitch control http://www.audio-extasa.eu/popup_add_image.php?pID=891 http://www.audio-extasa.eu/akai-gx620-reel-to-reel-p-891.html This Unit is in great working and cosmetic condition. See pictures for details. Unit itself in great cosmetic condition, a couple minor scratches on the head cover, other than that unit is in great shape, looks great and sound even better. I compared this unit with my GX-747 and there is absolutely no difference in sound. Heads, pinch roller and tape path parts just like new (see close up pictures), according to the original owner - this unit never been used as reel to reel player/recorder, its been used only as amplifier to amplify signal from electric piano. One of the last Akai open reel decks built in the early 80s. 4 track 2 speed, 9.5 and 19 cm/sec. Sonically as good as the big Akai GX 747. A very reliable unit. Unit produced 1979 - 1980 Retailed $850.00. FEATURES GLASS AND CRYSTAL FERRITE HEAD SYSTEM: The Glass and Crystal Ferrite heads are known for their reliability and extra high frequency response and focused field and replaced the Cross-Field head system. These heads were made out of hard class and crystal ferrite and were virtually indestructable, and dust free. They were stated to last 150,000 hours which is equivalent to 17 years. This means the high frequencies don't go dull due to wear since this specific type of head is made out of hard glass and crystal ferrite.
