Description
Vehicle Description

If you're a baby boomer, you remember well these cute little Ramblers running around town, or maybe your parents had one of those station wagons with the fold-down seat.

This is a very nice example of a rare, adorable 62 Rambler American Deluxe Convertible. Rare options include power steering, automatic transmission, padded dash, factory tinted light green windows, plastic glove box insert. When you drive this, you get lots of looks and hear lots of Rambler stories.  Have original owner's manual from Holiday Rambler Motors in Long Beach, CA. Still has California black plates.  Has the spare tire and jack.  2K miles on new rebuilt engine: replacing all pistons, rings, lifters, timing chain, bearings gasket & seals, new freeze plugs. Original single barrel carburetor replaced with two barrel. New battery. Back brake wheel cylinders were replaced, the power steering lines and return lines were replaced, oil, filter changed and lubed.  Repainted original color. Rebuilt convertible top motor works great. Top in great shape. Nice interior. All keys work, tires show very little wear, trunk is immaculate; wipers work; manual windows work; blinkers work; H-6 high intensity headlights; NOS tail light lenses; no visible rust; radio works, Owners manual, 2 Technical Service Manuals, and misc parts come with vehicle. Over $17,000 invested in this vehicle. Have receipts for engine rebuild and repairs plus most expenses.

6 cylinder OHV 196 cu, 125 hp and three speed Flash-o-Matic automatic transmission. Body A033036; Model 6207-5, Trim 244V, Paint 36

Lots of fun driving around town. We use the car around Sacramento County for running errands, shopping, etc. We drive the car faithfully every weekend, subscribing to the philosophy "if you don't use it, you will lose it." These old survivors need to be run frequently. Keep in mind this is a 45 year old car so do not expect a new condition, there will be minor flaws and imperfections not itemized in this ad.  Personal inspections of vehicle are welcome in Sacramento and encouraged.  Please contact us before  bidding.

This is a used classic being sold as-is/where-is and it comes with no warranties expressed or implied. Parts can easily be purchased and found on the web, I can only share my experience as its owner.  Happy bidding and thanks for taking the time to look.  The car is for sale locally as well, so the auction could end at any time.

A BIT OF HISTORY…

The story begins when Mexican-born George Romney moved to Detroit with his wife and their two daughters to become the local manager of the American Automobile Manufacturers Association (AAMA). During World War II, Romney headed the Automotive Council for War Production, which worked to optimize automotive companies' war production.

He rose to managing director of the AAMA and became good friends with George W. Mason, then president of the organization. When Mason became chairman of the manufacturing firm Nash-Kelvinator Corporation in 1948, he invited Romney along "to learn the business from the ground up" as his roving assistant.

As Mason's protégé, Romney assumed executive assignment for the development of the Rambler. Under the strategy of Mason, Nash-Kelvinator merged on May 1, 1954 with Hudson Motor Car to become the American Motors Corporation (AMC). Romney became Vice President at AMC. A short time later, Mason suddenly died of acute pancreatitis and pneumonia and Romney was named AMC's Chairman and CEO.

Together with chief engineer Meade Moore, Romney elected to phase out the Nash and Hudson brands whose sales had been lagging. The Rambler nameplate name was selected, and the untried strategy of focusing on the exclusive manufacture of compact cars was chosen, an approach that led to unexpected financial success for AMC.

In contrast with the racing success of the Hudson in the early 1950s, the Ramblers were frequent winners in the annual coast-to-coast Mobil Economy Run, which were held on public U.S. highways. In the earliest years of Rambler, the company had been on the verge of being taken over by corporate raider Louis Wolfson, but the company's resurgence made Romney a household name, and he capitalized on it by entering by entering politics.

Romney served as Michigan’s Governor from 1963-1969, mounting an unsuccessful bid for the Presidency in 1968.   Now his son is trying to repeat history.  Both owe their success in many ways to the Rambler, a breakthrough car that in 1957 was marketed for the first time as a Rambler in its own right.
