This vintage and original set # 725 of American Plastic Bricks by Halsam/Elgo contains about 132pieces (original had 290 pieces). There are 99 FB Red bricks (23 have some damage). There are 23 HB Red bricks (3 have some damage). There are 4 L-1 bricks, 3 L-2 bricks and 3 L-3 bricks. Two torn partial roofs ate included. Original box with lid is 13” tall and 5.25” in diameter. This set has been played with but is clean and is in EXCELLENT condition. All pictures are unaltered and of this item, not stock photos. Set in box itself weighs 1 lbs.- 11 oz. Estimated package weight: 3 lbs. 5 oz. Package size about: 5.25" x 7.5" x 14.5". Halsam Products Co. was founded in 1917 by brothers-in-law Harold Elliot and Sam Goss, Jr. ("Hal+Sam"). Halsam was a pioneer into manufacturing plastic toys with their Elgo (ELliot+GOss) division. Beginning with bakelite dominoes and checkers, they improved their products through the use of plastic-injection molding. A small Danish company named Lego came to Chicago to meet with Halsam officials. Lego also made plastic building bricks and was set to begin marketing in the United States. Because the products and the company names (Elgo and Lego) were so similar, the Danish officials wanted to avoid any unpleasantness. Sam's son, Bill Goss (the first to speak with Lego officials), remembers the Lego executives as upstanding and forthright. Lego paid Halsam a sum of approximately $25,000 to clear the way for Lego's arrival in America.
