New Hermes key holder or charm for your Hermes bag: The Elephant
This charm came out in 1997 but it was not, as many times erroneously reported for the Year of Africa (although this would make sense). The Lion charm which we have also listed was issued for the Year of Africa.
The Hermes charms are used as key-rings or to adorn your favorite Hermes bag.
The Lucky Elephant
Every home should have at least one lucky elephant for every door in the house. Keep all the bad luck out and make sure the good luck stays in the house with the people who live there. The elephant is probably the most positive animal symbol known. The idea of the luck of the elephant is ancient. There are tales of lucky elephants in China, India and most of Asia and Africa. Even the early Christians took the elephant as a symbol of victory over death.
In parts of Asia and India only kings could ride an elephant. The elephant is the symbol of wisdom, intelligence and strength in many countries. The elephant is known to bring happiness into the home. Gamblers often carry a small elephant in the left pocket.
Interesting info: In America the creation of the
lucky charm arose from the admiration of the lucky elephant-god of
India and Thailand's white elephants. It was during the tough times,
the Great Depression, the 1930's that the elephants charm gained its
popularity peak. During this period the lucky elephant charms could be
found in a vast variety in the United States, Canada, and Europe. The
elephant charms were worn by American and European women and girls as
part of a bracelet. The bracelet often featured other lucky symbols
such as the wishbone, four-leaf clover, horseshoe, money bag, and heart.
