Ancient Medieval Knight's

Crown Shield Ring!

This auction shall begin at $1, as we are confident collectors will appreciate the value of this unique and rare item

(evaluation $850-$1250).

You are bidding on a beautiful and rare Medieval Knight's Crown Shield Ring!

(last photo pre-cleaned condition)

This is one of the most ornate and interesting types of rings we have encountered from a hoard in the Balkans. The side shields of these rings, supporting the bezel often depict chariot wheels, Romanesque shields or star shaped chariot spoked wheels. On some, the top rivets of five signify the 5 wounds of Christ while rounded patterns may be of different significance (often with traces of gold on the face detectable but worn). The rear of the shank is often decorated with roped patterns, as well as encircling the bezel; very unique ring specific only to this period and culture. This likely was owned by a warrior involved in some type of command structure, as these rings were known to be worn by higher status military persons (Knights) working for the crown. This is truly a rare and significant Medieval treasure!

The massive bezel is reminiscent of the Medieval to Early Byzantine Battle Shields used to defend the Empire. This rare ring also has a striking resemblance to the King's Crown. It is a fitting ring for a Knight who uses a Shield to defend the Crown and his own Honour. This impressive ring is centered by five protrusions indicative of the five wounds of Christ. During the Byzantine conflicts through the Medieval Crusades, much of the jewellery was connected with the owner's spirituality and honour.

The edges of the bezel are sharply scalloped with the most beautiful patterned decorations encircling a central rounded shape with ornate granulation designs. Often these rings were coated with gold on the top most portion to add shine and notice ability to the individual who cherished this gem. This stunning piece of history is primarily constructed of bronze with ancient silver still surrounding the circumference of the bezel & attaching the shank with traces of gold detectable but worn mostly off. This is truly a Masterpiece of Ancient Art!

If item is not as described, we will offer a full refund of the bid amount. We will NOT refund solely if the buyer changed their mind or forgot to read something clearly listed in the auction. Sources

We are hobby collectors whose interests are in archaeological sites, individual explorers, shipwrecks, purchasing collections from individuals, estates, inheritances, local and worldwide auction houses, our own excavation& metal detecting excursions, museum discontinuance, governmental sales and metal detecting individuals/clubs throughout the world. We are always open to new avenues of acquiring items of archaeological interest (if any of you would be interested) and sharing with others. We research each of our antiquities for authenticity, provenance, material & likelihood of finding a particular item given the conditions of discovery. If you are unsure if an item is authentic, we would be happy to assist best we can (free of charge). Inevitably an item can even slip through the hands of world renowned auction houses; for this reason we offer a money back guarantee with no ill feelings. We remain humble in our years of formal degrees and informal education: “The more we learn, the less we know.” We are honest sellers doing our best to share our enthusiasm and love for antiquities (and other interesting items) with a spirit of honesty, respect, honour and dignity.
