A lovely ancient glass bead of large proportions with a mosaic eye type pattern from the Eastern Mediterranean Sea region, dating from about 900 to 1100 AD, more or less. Some researchers believe that this type of bead was made in Fustat, the old city that now lies within Cairo, Egypt. Some collectors also refer to this type of bead as "Morphia", or "Morfia", but I am not so sure I agree with that it falls in that category. The condition is fair, showing great age and wear overall, with some breakout on one side as shown in the third picture, about 19 mm in diameter and 16 mm through the stringing hole, which is about 6.5 mm in diameter. A rare and interesting ancient glass bead. Photographs have been enlarged and may appear larger than the actual size of the objects. Colors may appear differently on the viewer's computer. |
