Offered here is this ancient pre contact "KUERUEK" Shell Currency from the Abelam in the Maprik area of New Guinea,. The pieces comes professionally mounted on a custom made stand. Kuerueks are symbolizing very important round boars tusks. This perfect and ancient piece has a brilliant patina from generations of use. It is in perfect mint condition without any hairline cracks or repairs. Please also see my other auctions for other "PRIMITIVE CURRENCIES". The Kueruek offered here has got an outer diameter of 12cm and is 18.5cm high with the stand. The field photo was taken by myself in 1987 and shows a ceremonial yam root with a Kueruek.
