I AM MOVING SO ALL MY RADIOS I CAN'T TAKE HAVE TO GO INCLUDING THIS ONE, I AM LISTING SEVERAL RADIO'S IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS, THIS RADIO WAS IN MY STORE FOR THE LAST MONTH , I HAVE CLOSED MY STORE AND I AM PUTTING ALL MY LISTING ON AUCTION. HERE IS A VERY NICE 1940 ZENITH 10S-464 CONSOLE TUBE RADIO WITH A (1005 CHASSIS). THIS RADIO HAS BEEN GONE THROUGH, I HAVE CHECKED ALL 10 OF THE TUBES REPLACE THE BAD ONES AND HAVE CHANGED THE ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORS (FILTER CAPS)AND CLEANED THE CHASSIS. THIS UNIT PLAYS VERY STRONG AND LOUD, IT PICKS UP AM AND SHORT WAVE STATIONS, THE VOLUME CONTROL IS A LITTLE TOUCHY WHEN YOU FIRST TURN HER ON IT GETS LOUD FAST. THE CABINET WE SANDED DOWN TO THE VENEER EXCEPT FOR THE CROSS BARS AND THE BOTTOM WHERE ZENITH PUT THAT SPECIAL FINISH TAPE ON, I DIDN'T WAN'T TO TAKE THAT OFF BECAUSE I DON'T THINK I CAN REPLACE THAT KIND OF FINISH, THERE ARE A COUPLE SPOTS WHERE THE TAPE HAD BEEN OFF, WE PUT A MIXTURE OF STAINS TO BLEND IT IN, IT IS HARD TO TELL. THE REST OF THE RADIO WAS SANDED TO ITS ORIGINAL WOOD GRAIN VENEER AND THEN PUT 2 COATS OF TEAK OIL TO REALLY BRING THE BEAUTY OF THR GRAIN OUT. THEN WE LET DRY FOR 48 HRS AND PUT 4 COATS OF HAND RUBBED POLYURETHANE HIGH GLOSS FINISH ON IT AND THAT MAKES IT VERY PRETTY. THERE IS SOME SPOTS ON THE BACK EDGE WHERE THE VENEER HAD SOME SMALL CHIPS WE FILLED THEM WITH FILLER AND TRIED TO MATCH THE COLOR, HARD TO DO. THERE IS A BIGGER SPOT ON THE LOWER BACK RIGHT CORNER WHERE WE PUT SOME FILLER IN AND STAINED IT TO MATCH THE COLOR ( PIC #7) UNLESS YOU GET RIGHT ON TOP OF IT IT IS HARD TO SEE. ON THE VERY TOP RIGHT RAISED CORNER WHILE I WAS STAINING IT MY CLOTH SNAGGED A PEICE OF VENEER AND TOOK A SLIVER OFF YOU CAN BARELY SEE IT. THIS RADIO HAS ITS ORIGINAL CLOTH ALSO. I AM DESCRIBING EVERYTHING IN DETAIL THE BEST I CAN I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL RESTORER BUT MY RADIOS LOOK REAL GOOD AND I TRY TO GET THEM WORKING THE BEST OF MY ABILITY. THERE WERE SOME WIRES (NOT HOT) THAT I PUT SOME TAPE ON THE INSULATION CAME OFF. ALL IN ALL THIS IS A VERY NICE RADIO IT IS BIG IT MEASURES 29" WIDE X 16" DEEP X 42" HIGH AND WEIGHS AROUND 85 POUNDS.
