ANTIQUE ENGLISH 15K 2-COLOUR GOLD SEAL FOB FORBES c1820

A lovely quality antique English, solid 15 carat two-colour gold (tests thereabouts) fob with ribbed and chased decoration and set with a high quality foiled citrine seal, very finely engraved with a family crest topped by an eagle, and the Latin motto 'Virtuti Inimica Quies' (Inactivity is an enemy to virtue) in reverse - the motto for the name Forbes.

Lovely - high quality, extremely collectable - and perfect for any chain or charm bracelet!

This fob tests as solid gold, although there is possibly a metal liner in the lower bezel - these were often made like this for strength and durability.

CONDITION: All original and very good. Some wear to gold detail commensurate with age. Possibly missing an applied nipple from the top of the base. Seal perfect.

DATE/MARKS: Around 1820/30, not marked.

DIMENSIONS: 27 mm tall, base 18 x 15 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or 3/4 of an inch diameter.

WEIGHT: Approx. 8.1 grams.
