ANTIQUE GEORGIAN NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, TINIEST STITCHES
A dainty bit of women's art, this. Yes, in its time, this is truly about the only 'art' women were allowed or expected to work in, that requiring a needle and thread. And the old needlework artistry, such as this one, amaze and delight me every time I see a fine creative one such as this. Believe me, I've painted, and I've sewn, and to do this work in such miniscule tiny stitches would have taken months to accomplish, and only a few days if done in oil or watercolor. . . so who were the artists, really? Imagine 'painting' with tiny stitches, fine silk threads, against a linen openweave canvas. Yes, those of you who understand the history of art, you know women's work, don't you. ;)
Very good to excellent, in a period or early Victorian frame, ready to be hung and coveted by all who see it. Glass covers and protects it in this small treasure of a frame. I'd set it out on an easel, tabletop, along with my sewing sets from the same era - just about like you see in my final photo. Beautiful way to display a collection, do you agree?

Our shipping days are Tuesday and Friday, paid items will be shipped on the first shipping day after payment is recieved (except when special circumstances exist).
