Description:
Midwest Estate Buyers is pleased to offer for your consideration an antique pocket watch made by the Hamilton Watch Company.
Movement: This timepiece features a highly desirable 17J Elinvar movement. It is marked Elinvar, U.S. Navy BU. Ships, Hamilton Watch Co., USA, 2974B, 17 Jewels, Adj Temp and 3 Pos, (serial number) K115. The unique aspect of this watch is that it is also marked U.S. Govt., which indicates that it was one of the watches made by Hamilton specifically for the government employees of the time, which is not surprising considering Hamilton's long relationship with the military. The movement is still operational and appears to keep time, although it has not been tested for true accuracy.
Case: The silver case is in good condition, with just a little normal wear on the edges. The watch includes a dustcover which has 1316948 engraved inside, and the outside backplate reads "U.S. Navy BU. Nav Second Setting Serial No." The crystal face is without cracks or scratches.
Dial: The dial is a beautiful mint-condition porcelain with no scratches or cracks which shows all the numbers 1-60, and includes the subsidiery dial marking the seconds. Another very unusual aspect of this watch is that is features the baton style hands, which was rarely seen on this movement number, or on any Elinvar series watch.
