Excellent condition vintage hickory wooden shafted wood mallet putter.This old golf club is a R. Forgan Maxmo model putter. Crown is stamped, “MAXMO.” Sole stamping is a lttle rubbed, but stamped, “Medium Lie.” These putters have a slightly hooked face and heavy lead weight under both the heel and toe sole plates. Original shaft is stamped, “Forgan, St. Andrews.’ No cracks or chips to head, neck, or shaft. Straight wooden shaft is without chips or cracks and is certainly an original. 34 ¾ inches in total length. Old 14 inch maroon leather wrap grip is intact with whippings.Grip may well be an original.Please see my other wood shafted and vintage collectable golf clubs. This model putter was in the Jeff Ellis/ Sothebys golf club auction last September 2007. It can be found in the Sothebys auction catalogue as lot number #307 on page #170. The club sold for $500.00. This model club and its unique history is also featured in 'The Clubmaker's Art' by Jeff Ellis on page #257 and in the 2nd edition of the same book on page #303.
