ANTIQUE LACE FASHIONABLE LARGE BATTENBURG LACE COLLAR
A wonderful, antique Battenburg tape-lace collar, circa 1915-20, and made with linen tapes and not cotton. Filler threads and eyes are cotton. This lace was made by stitching together plain cloth pre-made tapes into stylized floral and geometric patterns with threads simply twisted together like spider-like decorations formed by weaving over and under threads arranged like a spoke of a wheel. This is a treasure of early 20th century fashionable lace accessory. The piece was worn as a neck adornment. The design is busy, but still is graceful. The variety and complexity of the flowers, leaves and scrolling add lots of interest to this piece. In excellent condition with the lace is in tact with no separations. A lot of skillful work went into the construction of this piece. MEASUREMENT: 41-1/2" inside neck line edge. 9-1/2" deep at center. Condition is excellent with no broken brides, no stains and the material is strong. Would look lovely basted on a velvet dress, framed, or simply, to add to your collection. I have listed many other vintage lace collars found in My Ebay Store
