This piece is truly a fine work of Art. Sad to say we do not know the names of the people that created the incredible linens from the past as they were true Artists. I believe this is Italian in origin and circa the turn of the 1900's. Completely encrusted in hand work on the finest white linen. Possibly for a Wedding Trousseau as there are Love Birds, roses, urns etc. The white embroidery is raised. There is cut-work, Buratto lace work, punch work & some sort of lace/cut work. All hand done. I carefully hand laundered and line dried and in the two hours it took me to press this piece I became so amazed at the detail which took my breath away. The edges are beautiflly scalloped plus many other wonderful details. Condition is great-Actually I found no problems so I think it may have never been used. It is huge so it could be used as a Banquet Cloth or Spread as it measures 86 inches wide by 122 inches long. It is pure white.
