Fabulous & rare antique English Regency to Victorian era rosewood sewing box, a 10" compendium with ornate ivory inlaid exterior and full of original carved ivory implements, crochet & sewing accoutrement and even an 1862 dated hand written letter to 'Mamma'! One of the most charming and interesting sewing boxes we've had to date and, by far, in the most 'original' state! As if in storage since the mid 1800s, this one was found just as you see it, full of all the original crochet manuals, lace & silk fragments, patterns and paper for embroidery 'punchwork', and, of course, a host of original carved ivory or bone spools, tiny tape measure and other miscellaneous implements. A paper label inside the lid bears the coat of arms of the British Royal Family, complete with familial motto "Dieu et mon droit" or "God and my right". A truly spectacular museum quality find, in wonderful condition, don't miss it! Very good condition! No missing ivory inlays on the outside and just a tiny veneer nip or two to be seen. The inside has the complete original fabric lining & fittings, save for a tiny segment of the metallic trim. Some holes in the fabric in places but in overall wonderful shape. All of the contents, as found, are included with the box! All six original carved bone or ivory spools are there, along with a bone & silk measuring tape and pin cushion. Some missing tools, as you can see in the pictures. African elephant ivory, purchased within the US or with proper CITES documentation and will only be shipped within the US unless accompanied by such import/customs documentation.
