THIS PIECE MEASURES APPROXIMATELY 16 INCHES LONG AND IS 9 INCHES AROUND THE THICKEST PART
THE DESIGN CONSISTS OF A MERMAID HOLDING A SCROLL? AND SEVERAL BIRDS, A SNAKE, A TURTLE A DEER AND FAWN, PLUS PLANTS
THE SCRIMSHAW ON THIS PIECE IS NOT DEEP AND SOME OF THE DESIGNS ARE DIFFICULT TO SEE

THE OLD STAPLE ON THE RIGHT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN ADDED LONG AGO, TO HANG THE PIECE. MIGHT HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN PUT THERE BY MY HUSBAND TO DISPLAY IT. HE DOESN'T REMEMBER ANYMORE.
THE VALUE OF THIS PIECE HAS BEEN APPRAISED AT BETWEEN $900 AND $1100.
MY HUSBAND, WHO IS 88, CLAIMED THESE TO BE AS OLD AS THE KENTUCKY RIFLES THEY HUNG UNDER. I THINK THAT WOULD PLACE IT AT ABOUT 1750 UPWARD TO ABOUT 1825, OR SO. PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG. PLEASE FEEL TO ASK ME QUESTIONS. IF I DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER I WILL TRY TO FIND ONE FOR YOU.
