 | | | | TURNIP & HIS MOSAIC PORTRAIT!
This wonderful Steiff teddy bear is known as "Turnip." This lovely old character dates to the
1920's. He stands 16" tall and retains his FF button in ear with bright
glass eyes, pads replaced long ago with old leather, nose covered in a
small piece of the same old leather, golden mohair with overall wear,
but plenty of fluffy mohair evenly distributed on his face. And what a sweet face this teddy has! So unique
that it inspired me to create his
portrait in beautiful porcelain.
This bear originally came from the Old Bear Company eight years ago. The "OBC" is a leading antique teddy bear website based in the UK. He was named Turnip because of the unusual shape of his snout...it
resembles a turnip! He wears an old pair of lederhosens in the colors
of brown, turquoise and red. He also wears matching RARE and superb
high top Victorian turquoise boots. To enhance his outfit and matching
it beautifully is an antique "Sampson Shoes" advertising pinback button
dating to the late 1800s. The pinback has the same colors and the theme
is perfect since Turnip is wearing shoes!
Turnip's charming mosaic portrait measures 11" x 13" and consists of
all hand-cut porcelain. It is all original and very detailed. A unique and painstaking technique was employed, which raised the
bear from the background, and it was grouted and sealed in the final
stage. It is framed in a high quality custom-made welded steel frame
and comes ready to hang.
This teddy bear and original mosaic portrait are being offered with a BIN price. This bear is also available on the Old Bear Company website at: http://www.theoldbearcompany.com/. Turnip would be a unique addition to any antique Steiff collection. As a bonus he will come wearing his Santa suit, which he wears every Christmas (see pic below):
