Item specifics
Original/Reproduction: Original PrintListed By: Dealer or Reseller

Subject: EthnicStyle: Vintage
Size Type/Largest Dimension: Medium (Up to 30")Date of Creation: 1900-1949
14 1/2" by 26" chromolithograph of an Arab marketplace. Signed lower right in the plate by the artist- it looks like Guilio Bosay or Rosay. I Googled all kinds of combinations but could not find anything. Under the signature is printed on the plate: "Copyright 1906" Taber-Prang Art Co.. The exotic romanticism of far-off countries was popular subject matter with the Victorians and it continued right into the turn of the 20th century. This is a gorgeous image of traders and their goods- a stack of Persian rugs, pottery, saddles and swords. There are camels and an Arrabian horse in an elaborate harness. The coloring is fabulous- the red chosen for some of the figures in the foreground is such a perfect contrast with the soft sandy, desert colors in the background. The color doesn't seem faded either. This litho is partially glued to an old piece of matboard- a professional can probably remove it or you can just frame it as it sits. There is a 1" tear on the right side of the litho that is hardly visible. It is in surprisingly good condition for a 100+ year old print with good color and very little toning of the heavy paper it was printed on.
