Oh my! This is truly an amazing work of art. Irish linen with highly skilled hand applique work. The picture is of Minnie Mouse, still the old fashioned, longer snouted version of her. She seems to be lighting fireworks & they are all exploding upwards into the sky. The "tin" or "container" that the fireworks are coming out of, has what seems to be the number 3 appliqued on the "unexploded?' fireworks. Above her, possible hanging from a tree or tree branch are 2 traditional chinese lanterns. So, with these number 3's & the chinese lanterns, this seems to possible be a celebration cloth of sorts. New year? New year 1930? Chinese new year? The cloth has a light yellowish inverted scalloped border, 1 area which has lost it's stitching, see pic. One other area that has a small 5 cm tear, see pic. A few very very minor rust/age spots, in one or two places only. Otherwise no faults at all. I would suggest that this is a HIGHLY COLLECTABLE PIECE, what with it depicting the old style Minnie, as well as the workmanship which is so rare nowadays. 135 cm by 88 cm. |
