My grading system, which based on The Record Collector Magazine (There may be variations on other magazines) is as follows:
Mint (M) - Record still sealed or rarely played. Immaculate
Near Mint (NM) - Record only played a few times / Slight marking on cover
Excellent (EX) - Record played several times and still retains sound quality / Cover shows slight signs of wear.
Between Excellent and Very Good (VG +) - Record played many times with slight hissing or crackles (this is typical of records before 1970), but no major scratch. The record may contain surface marks on one side / Cover shows signs of wear and may have a slight impression ring near to the centre.
Very Good (VG ) - Record played many times with slight hissing or crackles (this is typical of records before 1970), and may have a scratch, but plays correctly. The record may contain surface marks on both sides / Cover shows signs of wear and may have a impression ring near to the centre.
Good (G) - Record played many times with surface noise and scratches, but still plays correctly. Record surface marked, scratched or soiled / Cover may be tatty with tears and has a notable ring near the centre.
REP - Replacement Sleeve
There are two other catagories of grading (I will not sell such records).These will be sent to the great jukebox in the sky.
Fair (F) - Record sounds more like a crisp packets, but jumps occasionally.
Poor (P) - Does not play and jumps continuously.
All 12" records are cleaned with a vinyl record cleaner and posted in a stiff cardboard envelope with stiffener.
