There's something whimsical about this highly unusual piece from idiosyncratic English firm Bretby. You can always rely on these makers to turn out som3ething somewhat left of centre- this unusual conical piece being no exception! The body is embossed in relief, a changing scene of water lilies, with a little kingfisher bird placed subtly upon the neck area, just once, as shown. The effect is quite charming indeed. Cast from a fairly crude earthenware prone to chipping- the vase does carry 4 chips, and small faint hairline down the neck as shown fairly below. The chips could be filled- whilst they scarcely detract left as is.
A really very unusual- strikingly shaped piece of Art Nouveau era pottery- and I suspect this to be a rare item.
